Avis introduces first hybrid vehicles at Portugal's three
busiest airports
Avis customers arriving at Portugal's three busiest airports
in Lisbon, Oporto and Faro now have the possibility of renting
petrol-electric hybrid vehicles, which further reduce the
environmental impact of cars.
A total of 25 hybrid cars, which combine a conventional petrol
engine with an electric motor, are available at the 3 airports in
Portugal with plans to extend the fleet of these vehicles to over
50 by the end of the year.
Humberto do Carmo, Managing Director for Avis Portugal,
commented: "As one of the leading car rental companies in Europe,
we are constantly looking at ways to reduce further the
environmental impact of vehicles in the rental fleet.
Hybrid electric vehicles provide significant opportunities for both
fuel economy improvements and emissions reductions, as they produce
far less global warming pollution than conventional combustion
engine. The introduction of these vehicles in our fleet
builds on the progress we have already made in offsetting car
rental emissions."
To encourage the use of these vehicles, Avis Portugal is
currently basing the rental price of rental of a hybrid vehicle on
the lowest price of a regular vehicle.
